Autograph letters signed from James Orchard Halliwell-Phillipps, West Brompton, London, to Michael William Rooney, bookseller [manuscript], 1856-1857.

Letters (1-4) discuss Rooney's offer of a [1603] Hamlet quarto and his sale of it to Mr. Boone who then sold it to Halliwell. For a discussion of the circumstances surrounding this discover, see Phillipps Studies, by A.N.L. Munby, vol. II, p. 116. In (1) Halliwell-Phillipps also shows how anxiously he was waiting for a copy of As you like it to turn up.
